1st half: needle and thread, old treadle Singer converted to electric. Gives shocks through rubber soled shoes. get rid of to get repossessed Singer Stylist for $87.50 while in college. learn how to use sewing machine for art projects.

2nd half. Burn out the motor for Singer Stylist. Find out that motor will cost $300 to replace. Decide to buy floor model Bernina 801 Sport for $675. Fall in love with machine. evacuate during a hurricane with camera, marriage license, two cats, favorite pillow, slides and aforementioned Bernina. Discover somewhere between undergrad school and hurricane that hate sewing clothes. Also discover lack of frustration at using machines as an artistic tool.

3rd half. One Bernina is not enough. Purchase second for when favored Bernina is in the shop- then inherit Viking Husqvarna. Discover that there are other machines besides Berninas. Also now own serger, treadle machine (inherited), mother-in-laws machine (inherited) and favored Bernina 801 Sport. Worried about hoarding. But know that when one is in the shop, there is a machine as backup. Will the madness never end?

Looking forward to seeing you in May, my friend.
